The New CVN game

Last revised 7/21/02

Introduction: Like all first time games this is not even the Beta version. You are starting with the Alpha version as we begin this adventure in gaming, writing and learning. In the true Cybertown tradition of mystery, we will only tell you there are surprises and tasks that can lead to instant promotion or a fall to the beginning position. Figuring it out is your problem.

The expert game, of course is the hardest, and most difficult to win or have success. We expect few players there because it will tend to be hard on the ego. Be prepared for harsh rude comments and rejection. That long term Editor has yet to be named, so we are interviewing. Feel free to apply, if you think you can cut it! Any current or future CVN deputies will be given the opportunity to try. We do have a temporary leader there who asks that we use my address for sending and receiving emails. LOL He is awaiting the first story. Send to jdb_educator@msn.com . We are looking for someone with multiple skills in editing, html and good communication skills to play the role of a hard to please, impossible to work with tyrant who demands perfection. Specific training and guidelines will be developed with that individual. Please note this page will change and may change a lot!!! We are starting with the idea that the less stated, the better.

There are three game levels now: Beginner, Typical and Expert. More may be added.

Here are the very bare bones basics: Complex job possibilities exist and many more than we present.

Beginner game

CVN Monthly magazine for beginners (no official Cybertown title!)

Easy to get published.

Basic problems to face and resolve include, with a possible time frame to succeed in conquering this level: 30 days or less. (There are bound to be more problems that come up):

  1. Completing assignments on time
  2. Communicating (lenire, jdb_educator editors)
  3. Posting at least weekly to the cub-reporters group or freelancers group.
  4. Getting published in the cub news
  5. Getting a CVN or Cyto-exec title

Time frame one month or less.

CVN Weekly & Daily Game: Typical game)

Reasonably easy to get published

Problems to conquer: (more will be there but may not appear in the guidelines)

  1. Completing increasingly difficult assignments at each promotional level, on time with good quality and increasing self-editing.
  2. Communicating with Editors (jdb_educator, Rkgbiolgst38, Jack)
  3. Posting at least weekly to the appropriate group: CVN, CVN Weekly, CVNWEB, Cytographers.
  4. Joining the CVN club then waiting (by invitation only!)
  5. Joining the CVN group at yahoogroups
  6. Following up on stories or other contributions used by CVN such as graphics, web pages, screenshots etc.
  7. Tracking or following your own stories and especially your published stories
  8. The Cytographer and Cyto-execs are required to produce ONLY one Cybertown picture story per month for CVN use including introduction and cutlines for pictures. Up to three people may work on that story, and get promotion credits.
  9. Hint: send stories needing NO editing.
  10. As always, since we serve Cybertown, any articles written by non-players may be used in the Daily or Weekly.

Time frame variable from 3 months to forever

Writing Zone is a partner to CVN Weekly focusing on fiction, poetry and writing related articles. Surprises and promotions may come from Rkgbiolgst38 Assistant CVN Managing Editor, jdb_educator Managing Editor or Jack, CVN Publisher. These may come to you out of the blue at any time.

Success here MAY depend on stated initial goals and can take place in as little as 60 days depending on the pathway chosen by the player. Players may return again and again to take different pathways or stay with CVN and take on increasingly difficult time consuming tasks as the player progresses through to the top levels of CVN.

Expert Level

Very difficult to get published

  1. Top quality performance in each task chosen
  2. Politeness and courtesy in the face of pretty constant rudeness, antagonism and negativism with the very rare approval and surprise honors.
  3. All submissions by email, the format for submission is placing: "Expert: Name of story" in the subject line. Send to jdb_educato@msn.com . Stories may appear in the Daily, Weekly, Writing Zone, other publications or The VIRT if accepted there. The VIRT is Cybertown's premier site publication and operates independently, with their own guidelines under whoever is in charge. When we know, we will advise, if allowed. Publication there is viewed as an automatic honor simply by being published. Other honors may be granted as a result by CVN. You know you are good if published in the VIRT.
  4. Finally Rkgbiolgst38 is developing a professional level Horrorzine. Honors will come from publication there too.
  5. In possible development are: A Cybertown oriented sci-fi e-zine, and a Cybertown oriented fantasy e-zine.

Those cybertown newsletters, journals or magazines already in existence may apply for the honor of becoming an independently run part of CVN. And additional possibilities are available needing only a solid proposal, agreeable editors and dedicated staff of at least two very patient people to begin. (LOL this could almost be a separate game within the game.)

Time frame: 3 months to forever.
